Arborvitae

Arborvitae meaning ‘to sacrifice’ in Latin is the oil of Divine Grace.  A beautifully rich essential oil which can be used emotionally to help you connect with the divine and to remind you to stay true to your course, without placing too many expectations on it. It comes from the native western red cedar tree of Canada, known as the ‘tree of life’ and has been used historically by native Americans to make canoes and totem poles due to the sturdiness of the tree, as well as baskets and clothing, due to it’s naturally preserving qualities.

It is an amazing repellant, so not only physically can it help repel bugs, but emotionally it can help repel negative energies that may try and lead you away from your true path and will help you to remain true to yourself.  This essential oil will help to protect your boundaries and fend off negativity - a shield of sorts, like the protection it provides the tree that has stood proud and strong for centuries.  The amazing thing about this tree is that even when it falls, it does not rot and bugs and termites will not attack it due to it’s naturally repelling qualities.

I bought this essential oil when I started my oil journey, as it has special cleansing properties and was said to be effective for assistance with digestive issues for my husband. Boy is it strong in scent!! Definitely use the one sparingly in blends and also dilute for skin sensitivity.  It is woody, earthy but also has high notes which gives it a distinctly majestic scent that cannot be forgotten.  To me it is a higher vibe frankincense and the smell really permeates through the room.

Ideal to use when you are on holiday and need to help clear the room of any bugs and odours.  I also use this along with a carrier oil and lemon oil as a preserving wood polish for our wooden furniture at home. Try adding a drop on your wrists and ankles when hiking to repel bugs. It is also a beautiful accompaniment to diffuser blends - try mixing it with sandalwood and jasmine or with some earthy essences to really help ground yourself.  It is also a special essential oil to use in meditation, helping you to relax your mind and soul and feel in to the abundant flow of divine grace.
