Bergamot Essential Oil

This was one of the first 2 essential oils that I was gifted by my best friend on a very short visit to Sydney.  A couple of years later she said she wasn’t sure she was going to give them to me, but I am so pleased she did. It started my obsession with these amazing oils.  You will find that you will have your own favourites and Bergamot is absolutely one of mine!

It is a hybrid of the bitter orange and lemon and is used as a special flavouring in Earl Grey tea.  When cold pressed it releases linalool which is known for it’s very relaxing properties which is also high in other essential oils such as Magnolia and Lavender.

This Oil of Self Acceptance is, to me, sunshine in a bottle, not far off from Wild Orange.  It encourages you to stop being jealous of others and to help boost your own self confidence, as well as helping to calm you and bring you back in to balance.  This was a life saver when my girls started exploring the big city, away from home - a drop of this essential oil would help to calm my heartbeat and help me to feel at ease instead of feeling flighty all night.  This is also a useful oil to have to hand when you may need a bit of digestive support, head tension or any form of relaxation, be it sleep or just to help switch off from anxious thoughts.  A few ways to use Bergamot are:

Add in to the diffuser with any other citrus oils for an uplifting yet calming mix which will help you to feel abundant.  I keep this oil on me at all times so that I can use any time; I place a drop in my hand, rub my hands together and inhale for around 15-20 seconds for when I start to feel panicky

Diffuse or inhale for head tension or when you need to relax.  This is a fabulous oil to add in the diffuser for when kids are experiencing nightmares

Use in your moisturiser or add in to your own skin blend as it is really effective for purifying and cleansing the skin

Make your own perfume with a mix of Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Lavender and Tangerine essential oils for a mood lifting pure-fume. Place your desired drops in a roller ball and top with a carrier oil

Apply to your feet with a carrier oil when you are preparing for a good night’s sleep or use at night time (not day time due to UV sensitivity) when you are experiencing negative thoughts.  Rub down your arm with a carrier oil, just as if you are washing away those unwanted thoughts

***** NB - Please be aware that this is a citrus oil and use either on areas of the skin that will not see sunlight during the day or use 12 hours before going out in to the sunlight, as it is UV sensitive and can cause burning on the skin
